Audiology & swimming surveys
NDCS are carrying out two important surveys at the moment. Surveys completed by Monday 7th July will be entered into a prize draw to win a gift card for Sports Direct worth £25.
Swimming survey
NDCS are looking into swimming provision for deaf children and young people in Scotland.
We have a short online survey to find out what people think about swimming for deaf children and young people in their area.
The survey for families is here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/familyswim
And the survey for deaf young people age 13-24 is here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/dypswim
Audiology Survey
Ensuring that all deaf children across the UK have access to good Audiology services is a key priority for NDCS.
In Scotland, we know that nationally and locally there has been a drive to improve Audiology services and ensure they meet deaf children’s needs.
However, we are also aware that in some areas inconsistencies and challenges persist and we would like to learn more about the experiences of deaf children and their families across Scotland.
LInk to survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NDCSaudiology2014 - This survey takes about 10 minutes to complete and closes on Friday 11 July.
Big Word interpreting service
The Big Word is an interpreting service that is used on the Helpline and also by other NDCS teams.
Big Word offer interpreters in over 100 different languages.
If a caller wishes to use the service they first need to call the Helpline themselves on 0808 800 8880 and tell us in English the name of the language they speak and their phone number.
If they are unable to do this they can get a professional to contact us and request it on their behalf. We then contact the Big Word who arrange the logistics of the call. They get an interpreter on the line and then call back the client and we have a three way conversation. The system works very well and it usually only takes around 5 minutes to set up once we’ve received the initial call.
